Welcome
Brian Questa is a composer and double bassist from New York City, now based in Sligo, Ireland.
He spent a decade immersed in the city’s jazz and improvised music scenes, working with artists like Han Bennink, Mary Halvorson, and Wynton Marsalis.
In time, his focus shifted toward composition. He moved to Germany to study with Wolfgang Rihm and later Marco Stroppa.
His work now blends acoustic instruments with digital processes—shaped by memory, silence, and the physicality of sound.
It draws from electroacoustic traditions, contemporary classical composition, IDM, and improvisation—never confined to one, but shaped by all of them.
His music has been presented at the Japan Media Arts Festival, ICMC, Zagreb Biennale, and by ensembles including Riot Ensemble and Badische Staatskapelle.
He continues to write, perform, and listen—quietly building a body of work across forms and borders.
