Welcome
Brian Questa is a composer and double bassist from New York City, now based in Ireland. His music moves between electronic composition, contemporary classical writing, improvisation, and sound art—often landing somewhere in between.
He spent ten years in New York’s jazz and experimental scenes, performing with artists like Han Bennink, Mary Halvorson, and Wynton Marsalis. That energy still shapes his work, even as it’s shifted toward composition and digital media.
After relocating to Germany, Brian studied with Wolfgang Rihm and Marco Stroppa, expanding his approach to form, process, and sonic detail. Today, his pieces combine acoustic instruments with electronics, often composed in SuperCollider and driven by a fascination with memory, language, and sound as material.
His work has been presented internationally, including at the Japan Media Arts Festival, ICMC, and Zagreb Biennale. He continues to write, perform, and experiment—across genres, borders, and whatever comes next.
